    Note that this news is not about the traditional Quark page layout products (although Documentum integrates with those as well). It’s about the new Quark XML Author tool, that Quark acquired last year. I see this not as a “last ditched attempt”, but a strategic move by Quark to reinvent itself as a provider of dynamic publishing solutions.

    Thanks Jerry, do you think that Quark is moving away from the desktop and more into the dynamic document creation, or following both paths, both with equally stiff competition….?

    I can’t really speak for them. I’m guessing both, and if done right they would complement each other. Dynamic publishing typically requires a lot of complex code (e.g. XSL), so a good layout tool that works with XML content would be a big differentiator.
